Keeping Chooks in your Backyard

Wake up to Fresh Eggs for brekky, straight from your backyard

Drawing by Artist - Debra Bryan

Drainage
Place or build your pen in the driest part of the garden if possible to protect your chickens.
Shelter
On hot summer days, and windswept wintery conditions, chickens benefit from the shade and cover of trees or shrubs.
Vegetation
The Chook Pen, where possible, should be covered in vegetation on the ground. i.e grass

The Pen size
In order to maintain grass within your pen, you should allow 8 sq ft/ bird. A pen 20ft x 40ft would be sufficient for 10 birds.

Note: There will be a lot more information about feeding etc here shortly.
