A Special Convoy Kid Little Autistic Brendan needs Help
|
Brendan has just come home from three and a half months in hospital after very severe seizures.
Brendan’s seizures went into 'status', (which means not coming out of seizures). The severe seizures could not be controlled for 3 weeks in hospital, and Brendan’s condition became Life Threatening.
He also had to undergo an operation to insert a 'peg' into his tummy to administer medication and nutritional supplements as he cannot eat much food. When given food it must be in very small pieces so he doesn't choke.
Brendan's mum is a single mother with 3 children, (2 son's and a teenage daughter). The two (2) boys are Autistic, with Brendan being the most severe, and she is in URGENT need of support for a suitable vehicle for her to take and pick up her two disabled children to medical appointments and special school every day, (Little Brendan is in a specially designed wheelchair) as they live outside the boundaries of the special school bus pick up area. This single mum is the children’s 24/7 carer, and she has a teenage daughter’s needs to look after as well.
The youngest child, little 10 year old Brendon has severe Autism, is intellectually disabled and suffers from very severe seizures. The neurologists have concluded that Brendon has a very rare syndrome for which there is NO cure.
This single mother’s very old car has fully broken down and is now not drivable, and would not fit one of her autistic son’s special wheelchair in, even if she could afford to get the car repaired.

HOW WOULD YOU COPE? - HOW CAN YOU HELP!!
|
| |
Due to Brendan’s serious condition plus the seizures, lethargy and shaking all the time, he is now in a special wheelchair which is customised to suit his medical condition. Brendan’s special wheelchair cannot be folded and ‘tilts’ due to his needs.
Brendan requires constant care, medical and hospital treatment, plus needs to be taken to and from his special school with his brother (who is also Autistic, but not as severely disabled as Brendon), so their mum desperately needs a vehicle, which she simply cannot afford.
Vehicle Requirements:
A suitable vehicle would be a station wagon (preferably NEW) with a *cargo barrier and or a ‘Pre-Loved’ vehicle which is only couple/few years old, in good and SAFE condition with low kilometres (and a warranty if available), as she must travel frequently for the children’s special needs, plus she has a teenage daughter.
*A cargo barrier could be installed into a suitable vehicle, if one isn’t already there.
HOW WOULD YOU COPE?
Here’s just ONE example of Brendan’s mother’s plight:
Brendan’s mum has had to wait almost 3 hours at the supermarket (with Brendon in his wheelchair not long out of hospital, plus with all her food shopping), just for a special wheelchair taxi (Maxi-Cab) to take her home from doing the food shopping.
It was a cold, wet night, and she had to wait for the cab with Brendan in the wheelchair for over 2 and a half hours, in a very cold area (which was the only place with a seat).
So that she can take the children to school and medical visits, Brendan’s mum has taxi vouchers for a short while, which will be stopping very soon, so she desperately needs a vehicle.
