We Want Your Pre-Loved Mobile Phones & Chargers
Convoy For Kids Inc Mobile phone GET 'REAL' Recycling Program is to help raise funds for the Asthma kids plus help clean up the environment through the collection of unused mobile phones. (In working order or not).
As we are a non-profit, tax exempt registered charity, we will receive money for mobile phone's donated to us.
The purpose of the recycling program is to re-use the phones. All phones collected are extensively tested, repaired if necessary, refurbished and resold into developing countries where low cost handsets are needed. The Funds raised from our 'GET REAL' program stay in Australia. Mobile phones that cannot be reused have their components extracted to be used as spare parts. Older phones that are seriously damaged are sent to material recycling, where materials can be recovered and put back into productive use. The remaining materials are sent for disposal in an environmentally friendly manner with licensed recyclers, with no materials going to landfill.
Further Info: Phone Convoy's Hotline 1300 266 869 (7 days).

Visit our 'Get REAL Right Now' website here Scroll down for more information
The mobile phone recycling program is also endorsed and supported by ‘Clean Up Australia’.
Please scroll down for info on donating used printer cartridges and computers

Over 8 million Australian’s own mobile phones. Ask everyone to help us!
Over 8 million Australian’s own mobile phones (that is more than 40 percent of our population). Most mobile phone users upgrade their mobile phones about every 18 – 24 months. Please don’t leave your old mobile (and chargers) hiding away in a drawer, let your little children play with them as a toy, OR worse still – just throw away your mobile. DO NOT PLACE IT IN YOUR RUBBISH BIN to add to the pollution and environment problem, as they DO NOT BREAK DOWN. You can help the Asthma kids, by donating them to our Recycling/R-Use Project.
Ask your friends, neighbour's, kids school's, local clubs, workmates and anyone else you come into contact with, to donate their old mobile phones (and chargers if they have them) to us.

Visit our 'Get REAL Right Now' website here

Companies
The mobile phone recycling program is a great way to show your employees that you care about kids with Asthma while helping the environment at the same time.
Your Company or business can become a Partner with Convoy For Kids Inc without spending dollars. When you are upgrading your employee phones, please donate the old ones to us. If you don't supply phones to your employees, you could start a GET 'REAL' employee program within your company. Call us for help setting it up, it is so simple.
If your company would like further information about our "GET 'REAL' at Work" Program, please telephone our Hotline on: 1300 CONVOY (1300 266 869) 7 days.
You can also email your enquiry to head office here.

TIP:You can also help us by PURCHASING RECYCLED Photocopier, Fax, Inkjet or Laser cartridges from InkXpress.
It is so simple to order online at their SECURE site, and have your order delivered to you within a few days. Convoy uses InkXpress and we can't tell the difference (except they are so much cheaper plus you are helping the Environment).

Kids Getting 'REAL'
Leaving their Print on the Environment
Parents, Schools, Pre-Schools, Kindergartens, Groups and Clubs can all help Kids with Asthma by GETTING 'REAL' and helping children leave their very own 'GET REAL Print' on the environment.
Adults can help children collect mobile phones - working or not (and chargers) plus *printer cartridges (*See below) for us for the kids to take to school, kinder etc. Your school, kinder or club could start a our Special Convoy For Kids Inc 'GET REAL' Project by sending out details in your newsletters, spreading the word to other parents, friends, workmates, collegues etc. We can provide information and flyers, collection boxes and prepaid addressed satchels for you to post the mobile phones at no charge to you.

Phone our National Hotline: 1300 266 869 (7 days) or visit our 'Get REAL Right Now' website here

Kids Helping Asthma Kids and the Environment
Convoy Kids Handprint Projects
Adults can help children collect mobile phones (and chargers) plus *printer cartridges (*See below) for us for the kids to take to school, kinder etc. You or your school, kinder, pre-school or club could start a Special 'GET REAL' Project by sending out details in your newsletters, spreading the word to other parents, friends, workmates, colleagues etc. We can provide information and flyers, collection boxes and prepaid addressed satchels for you to post the mobile phones.
Using recycled paper, have each child either trace their Hand Print with a bright coloured texta OR use non-toxic kids paint for them to make an actual Handprint. The child then writes their FIRST name only on their own handprint (in a different colour texta). Please don't use blacklead or coloured pencils as they don't scan very well togo onto the website. The kids also must draw the outline ONLY of a mobile phone (or a printer cartridge - depending on what you are collecting) somewhere on their handprint. This area is to write the total amount of mobile phones (or printer cartridges) they collect on each handprint.
As the children collect old/used mobile phones (working or not) or Cartridges (cartridge details are below) they can draw a small Heart, Star or something else very small (and colour it in) for each mobile phone they collect.
Display the Handprints on boards, walls or windows until they are full, so the children know that they are very special kids to be helping kids with Asthma and the environment.
When the handprint is full, (10 or more mobiles or cartridges collected), but do try to fit as many small drawings (1 drawing for each mobile collected) as possible on each handprint, then send it to us and when we verify the amount of mobile phones (or cartridges) collected, the child/children receive a Special Convoy For Kids Inc "GET 'REAL' Friends" Certificate. The kids can then trace another hand or use their handprint and keep collecting for more certificates and other surprises. The School also receives a Certificate and becomes a 'GET REAL' Friend of Convoy For Kids Inc. We also add their school, club or group website link to our site.
# There is NO LIMIT to how many GET REAL 'Handprints' the children can send. The more the better for the Asthma kids, the environment and your group.
VERY Special Note: Some of the Handprints will be displayed on our website, however ALL THE HANDPRINTS will be kept and displayed at our Annual Asthma Appeal Family Day (held each year on the 3rd Sunday in February). The school or group who collect the most 'Handprints' and mobile phones (and/or printer cartridges), will receive a VERY Special surprise on our Annual Appeal Day. The children who collect the most mobile phones on all their 'Handprints' at their school or group will also receive a VERY special prize suitable for their age on the same day.

Have Your Own 'Donation Thermometer' Here

Convoy For Kids Inc will make a special 'Donation Thermometer' for EACH school, club or group helping us collect old mobile phones (working or not) plus used printer cartridges.
YOU TELL US what your School, Club or Group's GOAL is to help the Asthma Kids and we will set your very own 'Donation Thermometer', so you can watch it GROW.

Your goal might be $500-00, $1,000-0 or $5,000-00. As this is an ongoing fundraising program, you can re-set your goals at any time.

Below is a SAMPLE 'Donation Thermometer'.

For information on how YOU can join our FREE "GET 'REAL' RIGHT NOW" program and have your own thermometer here, or to Register your school, group or club, please call our National Hotline: 1300 CONVOY (1300 266 869) 7 days.
PLEASE SCROLL DOWN FOR MORE INFORMATION

Kids Collecting Printer Cartridges
We ask the schools etc to get the children to make Special Printer Cartridge collection box out of Recycled products and send us a photo (with the kids in it), so we can put it on our website. You could cut out pictures of printer cartridges (from brochures or magazines - and remember to recycle the scraps) or make coloured names of all the kids collecting cartridges and stick them all over the box. Think of fun decorating ideas.
NOTE: With the exception of placing the cartridges in the prepaid satchels, exactly the same process using the Handprints is used for collecting the Printer Cartridges. The 2 projects (mobile phones & printer cartridges) can be run together. **Instead fo us supplying one, you might even prefer to make your own Mobile Phone collection box and put Handprints of all the kids on it with cut-out's of mobile phones as well. *NOTE: We can organise collection of the printer cartridges if you can't afford to mail them or deliver them as the Printer Cartridges DO NOT go into the mobile phone satchels.
For further information and details how we can help your school, club or group become a 'GET REAL' Friend, please click here to email your inquiry about helping the Asthma children and the Environment, or phone our National Hotline on: 1300 266 869.

e-Waste
e-Waste refers to electronic items that have been thrown into the rubbish, such as discarded mobile phones, computer's, hard-drives, monitors, printers, scanners, keyboards, mouses, televisions, fax's, printer/fax cartridges etc.
When these items are disposed of or destroyed incorrectly, including being buried in landfill, these substances can become harmful to human health and the environment.
e-Waste has been identified as the fastest growing stream of waste, at 3 times the rate of other solid waste. New technology rapidly becomes old technology, and is quickly discarded. Our thirst for the latest, fastest, smartest technology is driving the high turn-over of this equipment.

Potentially Dangerous Substances
DON'T LET YOUR e-Waste END UP IN LANDFILL.
These are some of the potentially dangerous substances which can be found in e-Waste items:
*Arsenic: A poisonous metallic element that is present in dust and soluble substances. Chronic exposure to arsenic can lead to various diseases of the skin and decrease nerve conduction velocity. Chronic exposure to arsenic can also cause lung cancer and can often be fatal.
*Barium A metallic element that is used in sparkplugs, fluorescent lamps and ‘getters’ in vacuum tubes. Being highly unstable in the pure form, it forms poisonous oxides when in contact with air. Short-term exposure to barium can lead to brain swelling, muscle weakness, damage to the heart, liver and spleen. The long-term effects of chronic barium exposure to human beings are not yet known.
*Beryllium Recently classified as a human carcinogen. Exposure can cause lung cancer and a form of skin disease that is characterised by poor wound healing and wart-like bumps.
*Brominated Flame Retardants (BFRs). Used to make materials, especially plastics and textiles, more flame resistant. They have been found in indoor dust and air through migration and evaporation from plastics. Combustion of halogenated case material and printed wiring boards at lower temperatures releases toxic emissions including dioxins which can lead to severe hormonal disorders. Major electronic manufacturers have begun to phase out brominated flame retardants because of their toxicity.
*Cadmium: Absorbed through respiration but is also taken up with food. Shows a danger of cumulative effects in the environment due to its acute and chronic toxicity. Components may have serious impacts on kidneys. Due to the long half-life in the body, cadmium can easily be accumulated in amounts that cause symptoms of poisoning.
*CFCs (Chloro-fluoro carbons). Used mainly in cooling units and insulation foam, they have been phased out because when released into the atmosphere, they accumulate in the stratosphere and have a deleterious effect on the ozone layer. This results in increased incidence of skin cancer in humans and in genetic damage in many organisms.
Chromium: Chromium and its oxides are widely used because of their high conductivity and anti-corrosive properties. Chronic exposure to chromium (VI) compounds can cause permanent eye injury, unless properly treated. Chromium VI may also cause DNA damage.
*Dioxins and Furans: A family of chemicals comprising 75 different types of dioxin compounds and 135 related compounds known as furans. Dioxins have never been intentionally manufactured, but form as unwanted by-products in the manufacture of substances like some pesticides as well as during combustion. Dioxins are known to be highly toxic to animals and humans because they bio-accumulate in the body and can lead to malformations of the foetus, decreased reproduction and growth rates and cause impairment of the immune system among other things.
*Lead: The fifth most widely used metal after iron, aluminium, copper and zinc. It is commonly used in the electrical and electronics industry in solder, lead-acid batteries, electronic components, cable sheathing, in the glass of CRTs etc. Short-term exposure to high levels of lead can cause vomiting, diarrhoea, convulsions, coma or even death. Other symptoms are appetite loss, abdominal pain, constipation, fatigue, sleeplessness, irritability and headache. Continued excessive exposure, as in an industrial setting, can affect the kidneys. It is particularly dangerous for young children because it can damage nervous connections and cause blood and brain disorders.
*Mercury: A toxic heavy metal that bio-accumulates causing brain and liver damage if ingested or inhaled. One of the most toxic yet widely used metals in the production of electrical and electronic applications. In electronics and electrical appliances, mercury is highly concentrated in batteries, some switches and thermostats, and fluorescent lamps.
*Poly-chlorinated Ciphenyls (PCBs). A class of organic compounds used in a variety of applications, including as additives in adhesives and plastics. The use of PCBs is prohibited in OECD countries, however, due to its wide use in the past, it still can be found in waste electrical and electronic equipment as well as in some other wastes. PCBs have been shown to cause cancer in animals. PCBs have also been shown to cause a number of serious non-cancer health effects in animals, including effects on the immune system, reproductive system, nervous system, endocrine system and other health effects.
*Polyvinyl chloride (PVC). The most widely-used plastic, used in everyday electronics and appliances, household items, pipes, upholstery etc. PVC is hazardous because contains up to 56 percent chlorine which when burned produces large quantities of hydrogen chloride gas, which combines with water to form hydrochloric acid and is dangerous because when inhaled, leads to respiratory problems.
Selenium: Exposure to high concentrations of selenium compounds cause selenosis. The major signs of selenosis are hair loss, nail brittleness, and neurological abnormalities such as numbness and other odd sensations in the extremities.
