Update of Guiness World Record for Road Trains

Thanks to an email received from 'Geoff' in Canada, (Thanks again Geoff), we have updated these pages for the Guiness World Record winners for the longest Road Trains.

2006 World Record: In February 2006, Mack Trucks Australia took on the world record again and won, securing its place in The Guinness Book of Records® for the longest road train ever pulled with a single prime mover.

The truck was driven by a 70-year old truck driver, John Atkinson,in a Mack Titan model with 113 loaded trailers, to move the Two Million pounds plus load ( 2,865,980-pound) 328 feet (100 meters).
A crowd of 8,000 people, including officials from the Guinness Book of Records were present to witness this great feat.
Despite the soaring temperatures, John Atkinson, with 50 years in the transport industry, remained cool, having also been at the helm in 2003 when Mack last set the record.

* Previous Guiness World Record Winners in Australia:

In 1999 the town of Merredin, Western Australia, made it into the Guinness Book of Records, when Marleys Transport made a successful attempt on the record for the world's longest road train. The record was created when 45 trailers, driven by Greg Marley, weighing 603 metric tons and measuring 610 metres were pulled by a Kenworth truck for 8 km.

In 2000 on Sunday 19th October, the next record was set by a driver (Steve 'Stag' Mathews) in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia in a Kenworth pulling 79 trailers for 8Klms. You might like to also visit Doug Gould's website HERE.

In 2003, the previous record was surpassed near Mungindi, New South Wales, by a road train and a Mack single prime mover (measuring 1235 metres in length) driven by John Atkinson.

About Kingsley Foreman & Road Trains

If you would like to know a bit about Big Truck Towing in the Rough, Hot, Dry Outback of Australia, Kingsley Foreman has a site all about it.

He has been driving and working in this game for many years. His company is based in Adelaide (South Australia), a city closest to the Outback.

There are thousands of miles of natural country side and very few people. The roads are long and narrow, but they carry traffic heading both ways, so there is not much room to pass.

If you would like check out Kingsley Foreman's really interesting website and see many more Road Train Pictures, CLICK HERE to visit the OUTBACK TOWING website.
